LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A longtime favorite of the freezer section, Blue Bell ice cream began arriving on Las Vegas store shelves just this week.

Trucks for Texas-based Blue Bell ice cream were seen rolling around the Las Vegas Valley, bringing its popular confections to stores in the area.

The debut marked the opening of a 12,000-square-foot distribution center in North Las Vegas that will employ 14 workers. The center is expected to serve about 2 million hungry customers, Blue Bell said.

The company touts the brand as the third best-selling ice cream in the United States despite being sold in parts of 23 states, boasting its extremely fresh ingredients.

Blue Bell's true half-gallon ice cream can be found at Albertsons, Food 4 Less, Glaziers Food Marketplace, Smith's Walgreens, Walmart and other stores. The ice cream is already sold at Carrabba's and Outback Steakhouse locations.

To celebrate the arrival of the southern favorite to Southern Nevada, Blue Bell is giving away free samples on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday:

  • Noon to 2 p.m. at the lobby of Las Vegas City Hall at 495 S. Main St.
  • 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Glazier's Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Rd.
  • 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Albertson's at 7075 W. Ann Rd.
