LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A standoff at a home in southwest Las Vegas prompted the lockdown of a nearby school Monday.

The standoff began about 11:20 a.m. at a home in the 3900 block of Pamplona Street, near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

Officer Larry Hadfield, of Las Vegas Metro police, said constables were trying to serve an eviction notice to a man who lives at the home when the man refused to come out and threatened to kill himself.

Hadfield said the man was believed to be armed. He was taken into custody at 4:15 p.m. Police said he did not go willingly, and that they had to enter the home to get him. He was taken to a hospital for treatment for unspecified injuries.

Melinda Malone, spokeswoman for the Clark County School District, said nearby CH Decker Elementary School was locked down. She said police were at the school to provide support and protection. The lockdown was lifted before 5 p.m.
