Suspicious item found at McCarran parking garage cleared

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A suspicious item found on a pickup truck at a McCarran Airport parking garage prompted a police bomb squad to investigate it.

Las Vegas Metro police said a call came in about 11:30 a.m. of the reported suspicious package at the international airport's gold garage. Christine Crews, spokeswoman for McCarran, identified the item in the bed of the pickup as a military-type shell.

Crews noted the item was large enough to almost fill the entire bed.

The owner of the truck appeared at the scene and told authorities he owns the vehicle. The truck was then moved out of the parking garage, Crews said. Authorities deemed the shell was not a danger.

Traffic heading to the garage was momentarily halted while police investigated. The probe lasted a couple of minutes, Crews said.

There were no evacuations ordered.
