LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The driver whom authorities said slammed head-on with another vehicle on Summerlin Parkway, killing a man and woman, has been booked into Clark County Detention Center.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson confirmed Gustavo Martinez Garcia, 51, was transferred from treatment at University Medical Center to the jail.

According to Hixson, Garcia was booked on two counts of driving under the influence resulting in death tied to the Feb. 5 wreck on Summerlin Parkway near Rampart Boulevard. In the crash, driver Savanna Rae Gonzales, 20, and her passenger, Frank Anthony Spenia III, 31, died after Garcia's Chevy Silverado pickup slammed into their Toyota Corolla, according to NHP.

Troopers said it appeared the westbound pickup had crossed the median on Summerlin Parkway and traveled the wrong way on eastbound lanes before slamming into the Toyota.

Hixson further confirmed that results of a toxicology test showed a positive presence of alcohol in Garcia's blood system at the time of the crash, which is grounds for the DUI charges.

Garcia was also charged with failure to maintain lane. The crash renewed calls for safety devices like a guardrail along Summerlin Parkway.
