LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The baby who authorities said was hospitalized after he was abused by his father earlier this month died Monday, according to investigators.

Las Vegas Metro police said 3-month-old Aiden Leach was admitted to a local hospital Feb. 1 by his father, 31-year-old Andrew Leach. They said the baby was suffering from massive brain swelling, cardiac arrest and respiratory failure.

Andrew Leach, who is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, told investigators that Aiden had fallen out of his arms and hit the floor while he was trying to bathe the baby. He said Aiden eventually went limp, and that he tried to perform CPR before asking neighbors to call 911.

Once admitted, according to investigators, doctors said they did not believe that Aiden's injuries were the result of an impact, but rather being shaken. They said doctors also found that Aiden had suffered injuries that appeared to be about a month old.

The child was listed in critical condition since he was admitted to the hospital.

According to the Clark County Coroner's Office, Aiden Leach died Monday. The cause of death was not immediately released.

Andrew Leach was charged with child abuse and substantial bodily or mental harm. He was being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

Tess Driver, spokeswoman for the Clark County District Attorney's Office, said an amended complaint will likely be filed, but she did not immediately release a timeframe.
