LAUGHLIN, NV (FOX5) -

The Clark County Coroner's Office released the name of a man who was struck and killed in Laughlin when he rushed to help an overturned vehicle.

A cause of death was not immediately disclosed, though, for 72-year-old Charles Eugene Muller, of Laughlin.

Las Vegas Metro police said the man was giving aid to a vehicle that had rolled over on Needles Highway at Mile Marker 10 just after 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

According to police, the good Samaritan stopped to help the driver of the overturned vehicle, crossed the highway from east to west and was struck by a Honda Element traveling southbound.

Muller is survived by his two children, five grandchildren and wife of 47 years.

Muller's wife, Mary Muller, said his grandchildren were in the car when the accident occurred, witnessing everything.

"I think it's really sad, especially for the kids to have witnesses that - someone who is trying to do a good thing ends up losing their life over it. It's tragic," Fort Mohave, AZ, resident Tiana Key said.

"It's pretty scary. It can happen to anybody. I think he was a good guy caught in a bad situation," Laughlin resident Matthew Williams added.

Muller was airlifted to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Mary Muller said her husband suffered massive head injuries.

The two retirees had moved to Laughlin four years ago from California to be closer to family. Mary Muller said her family does not blame the driver who struck her husband for what happened, adding that he stayed at the scene.

Charles Muller's family plans to have him cremated at a funeral home in Las Vegas. He represented the 14th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

Police also noted moderate injuries were involved in the original vehicle overturn but didn't say how many people were hurt.
