LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police are investigating a high-speed collision that happened early Saturday morning near downtown Las Vegas.

Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated that at 12:49 a.m., a 2005 Hyundai Sonata was traveling at a high rate of speed on west Ogden Avenue east of south City Parkway when the driver lost control of the vehicle at an east curve in the road. The car struck a bridge pier redirecting the car into westbound lanes of Ogden where the car came to rest.

Police said the driver and the front right passenger were transported to UMC Trauma. The driver was admitted to the hospital for serious injuries and the passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital. The right rear passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Clark County Coroner's office has identified the victims as 20-year-old Joann Zermeno and 21-year-old Briana Medina of Las Vegas. Both women died from multiple blunt force injuries and their deaths have been ruled an accident.

These are the 11th and 12th traffic related fatalities in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2014.
