'One Billion Rising' takes stand against domestic violence in Bartow

Posted: Updated:
BARTOW, FL (WFLA) -

Dancing against domestic violence. That was the movement in Bartow Friday as dozens took part in a flash mob dance to raise awareness about the staggering statistics about domestic violence and their mission to stop it.

One victim in attendance spoke to the women and young girls about her story and wanted to send them a certain message on Valentine's Day.

“There are so many good men out there that you don’t have to be with someone who is possessive and jealous and hurts you,” Cathy Haley said.

This is the second year of the event called "One Billion Rising." It stands for the estimated one billion women in the world each year who become victims of domestic abuse.
