LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Police attempted to stop a vehicle just before it eluded officers, lost control and slammed into a light pole, killing the driver.
Las Vegas Metro police reported the wreck just after 4 a.m. Friday on Spring Mountain Road near Decatur Boulevard.
According to police, the vehicle - a 2011 Scion TC - was speeding westbound on Spring Mountain when it struck a bump in the road, lost control and veered into a light pole and then a wall next to a Jack in the Box fast food restaurant.
Just before the wreck, Metro said officers were attempting a traffic stop in the area of Las Vegas Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road. The vehicle, though, did not stop for the officers.
The patrol car, instead, did not pursue the vehicle.
The driver was later identified as 35-year-old Quintus Alton. The Clark County Coroner's Office said Alton died of multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.
Spring Mountain between Lindell and Decatur was shut down as a result of the wreck.
Police also noted once officers arrived on scene, another vehicle struck a patrol car. Police said the driver in the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The wreck represented the 10th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
