LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Authorities expect a driver involved in a deadly wrong-way crash on Summerlin Parkway to be jailed after preliminary tests showed alcohol was in his system at the time of the wreck.
Trooper Jeremie Elliott of Nevada Highway Patrol said the driver, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized at University Medical Center about a week after the Feb. 5 crash.
Elliott also said final lab results, which are due next week, should determine what he will be charged. If the driver was above the legal limit, he is expected to be charged with driving under the influence causing death.
The head-on crash involving a sedan and a pickup truck happened on eastbound Summerlin Parkway near Rampart Drive, according to NHP. Authorities said the sedan driven by Savanna Gonzales, 20, was driving eastbound when it was struck by the pickup.
Gonzales and her 31-year-old passenger Frank Anthony Spenia III died as a result of the crash.
NHP said the driver of the pickup crossed westbound lanes of Summerlin Parkway to the center median and into oncoming traffic.
The crash renewed calls for safety devices like a guardrail along Summerlin Parkway.
