Vegas hotel websites hacked, employee info compromised

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Hackers took over the Las Vegas Sands Corp. websites and released employees' personal information.

The hack seems to be politically motivated. Anti-weapons of mass destruction messages were posted with a picture of Sands Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson with Israel's prime minister.

Employee confidential information was also posted on the site, including names, social security numbers and email addresses.

Venetian employees told FOX5 off-camera Tuesday night they were being kept in the dark about the security breach.

A Sands spokesperson released this statement:

"Company-operated websites have been hacked, as have some office productivity systems in the US. The company is working closely with the appropriate law enforcement agencies to determine who initiated the hacking activity. In addition, the company is using its internal staff and external IT experts to assess the damage and return the systems to full operation. More info will be provided once we have definitively determined what occurred."

Harry Jacobs, CEO of Credit Restoration of Nevada, said this, along with recent breaches from Target and Neiman Marcus, are just the beginning of more to come.

"Unfortunately, the hackers at time appear to be one step ahead of security firms," Jacobs said.

He said confidential information in the wrong hands can be devastating.

"Unraveling yourself from this process is one that's a daunting one for sure," Jacobs said.

Jacobs said it's important for everyone to check their bank and credit card accounts daily, and if they see anything suspicious, report it right away.
