Sources: Suspects in Captain Kevin Quick case are affiliated with Bloods gang

Posted: Updated:

The five suspects connected to the disappearance and death of Waynesboro Reserve Police Captain Kevin Quick are from different parts of the state but law enforcement sources tell us, they are each affiliated with the 'Bloods' gang.

22-year-old Halisi Uhuru, also known as Gert Wright; 49-year-old Leslie Castelow and 31-year-old Anthony Darnell Stokes, Jr all face one charge each of principal in the second degree to the crime of murder and one charge each of gang participation.

Sources say, that gang is the Bloods. In fact, sources say, that's Wright, Castelow and Stokes know the other suspects connected with the Quick case: siblings Daniel Mathis and Mersadies Shelton.

At a press conference held in Waynesboro Friday, Quick's colleagues and Fishburne Military School cadets paid tribute to the police captain, who is presumed to be dead.

"Due to the time that has transpired since Kevin's disappearance, the fact that his vehicle was abandoned and because his whereabouts have not been established yet," said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The body found Thursday on a muddy lot in Goochland hasn't been officially identified. Multiple law enforcement sources tell us the body belongs to Quick.

While it's unclear how he ended up there what is clear to police is that the five suspects they have in custody may have something to do with it.

And court records show this isn't the first time Anthony Darnell Stokes, Jr has been in trouble with the law. He served time on abduction, robbery and firearms charges.

At Friday's press conference, the Waynesboro police chief reminded his fellow officers of why they do what they do.

"Let this tragic loss serve as a reminder that the work we have dedicated our lives to remains unfinished," said Chief Michael Wilhelm. "This investigation is far from over and the tireless efforts of the multiple agencies involved has been remarkable."

NBC12 has also learned there will be a candlelight vigil for Quick at the Waynesboro Police Department Saturday at 6:30p.m.
