LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The hotel-casino property that once housed the Sahara will reopen as the SLS Las Vegas this Labor Day weekend.

Sam Nazarian, CEO of the property's owner, SBE Entertainment, posted Wednesday an official opening date for the property at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip.

"It's been an incredible journey these past few years," Nazarian wrote on a blog for the SLS Las Vegas announcing the opening date. "Looking forward to toasting The Strip's next chapter with you!"

"We are 'back' indeed," Nazarian concluded in the short post.

SBE took over ownership of the property and closed the Sahara in June 2011, about 59 years after its initial opening.

Plans called for about 1,600 rooms and suites with additional restaurants, retail stores and nightlife. SBE Entertainment estimated 8,600 jobs would be made from the rechristening with about $400 million infused into the local economy.
