LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The first Monday of every month, Catholic Mass is held at the corner of G Street and McWilliams Avenue.

The Saint Benedict Labre Homeless Ministry was named after a homeless saint of the 18th century. Father John McShane founded it in year 2000.

"It's a good Samaritan type ministry. Usually we get between 200 and 300 homeless men and women, some children in tow," Father McShane said.

A folding table serves as the alter as Father McShane holds Mass for the homeless, those who live in the neighborhood and the members of his ministry.

"It helps me to the point that I'm looking forward to the next week," local homeless man Bernard Marshall said.

Father McShane was transferred to Ely, NV, last summer. He now drives 250 miles each way to continue the tradition every single week.

While they hold Mass on the first Monday of every month, every single Monday they show up to provide food and toiletries to those in need.

Volunteers show up with whatever they can find, be it beans and rice or sandwiches and soup.

People from Nellis Air Force Base and the Las Vegas Wranglers regularly show up to donate items.

A local Starbucks store donates its old pastries as well.

"Sometimes people think, well I can't do a whole lot. But even little things are pleasing to God," Father McShane said.

If anyone would like to help out with the ministry, they are invited to just show up to G Street and McWilliams any Monday night around 7 p.m. to learn more.
