LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Construction continues for the Shops at Summerlin near the 215 and Sahara.

The Howard Hughes Corp. announced new tenants Victoria's Secret, Michael Kohrs, Sephora and True Religion will join anchor stores Dillard's and Macy's when the project opens on schedule in late 2014.

Tom Warden with the corporation said there will be 125 shops, restaurants and entertainment venues on 106 acres of land. He said it will serve not just Summerlin residents but the entire Las Vegas Valley.

"The economy of Las Vegas is in good shape, elsewise these companies wouldn't have made an investment like this," Warden said.

A Summerlin mall was originally set to open years ago before the recession stalled the project. In mid-2013 the Howard Hughes Corp. gave the project new life.

The company said the mall will also be the beginning of Downtown Summerlin, a creative urban center that will sit on 200 acres.

"It will be high density urban residential. Office space for jobs. Street side retail. Great streetscapes where you have lots of pedestrian wide sidewalks," Warden said.

He said it will become a truly pedestrian-friendly center where people can live, work and play.

When the mall is finished it will have employed about 2,000 construction workers. Another 2,000 permanent jobs are expected to be created once it's open.
