CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mesa man who allegedly broke into vending machines in a string of burglaries in Mesa and Chandler was arrested Sunday inside a vehicle at Arizona Avenue and Ray Road, police said.

A short time earlier, a tenant at the Villamora apartment complex at 2150 S. Arizona Ave. found Christopher Ash, 32, inside the clubhouse trying to force his way into a Coca-Cola machine, according to Chandler police Detective Seth Tyler.

Ash was showcased by the Chandler Police Department in a Jan. 21 press release as the suspect in three vending machine burglaries. Ash was identified in the earlier release through photographs and surveillance video.

Ash has been charged with three additional burglaries in Chandler dating back to August 2013 and two incidents in early January.

Tyler said detectives uncovered evidence inside Ash's residence.

Ash was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on six counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of possession of burglary tools and one count of theft-control of stolen property.

Police also arrested his girlfriend, Erin Brandley, who was in the vehicle with him. Charges against her are pending.
