Authorities in Nye County believe a deputy took prescription drugs from the sheriff's office as well as medication from a woman while responding to a call.

According to the Nye County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Michael Horn was detained Saturday, accused of taking morphine pills from a holding room at a sheriff's station the day before.

In addition, the sheriff's office accused Horn of confiscating prescription drugs when he responded to an elderly woman's report of noise outside her home Saturday morning.

The sheriff's office said detectives learned of Horn pressing a deputy to turn prescriptions over to him rather than booking them into evidence.

Investigators then determined Horn entered into a semi-secured room at the sheriff's office to take 60 morphine sulfate pills.

On Saturday, the sheriff's office was about to relieve Horn of his duty. Instead, though, Horn responded to the noise call, where, deputies said, he coerced the woman into giving him her prescriptions.

According to the sheriff's office, Horn told deputies the drugs were expired prescriptions, which were later found to have been filled just 10 days before.

Deputies later searched Horn as well as his vehicle, where they found additional narcotics, medication and the missing morphine pills.

Horn was booked into the sheriff's office jail in Beatty on six counts of possession of a schedule-2 controlled substance, possession of firearm by a prohibited person, coercion, burglary, three counts of unlawful use of a controlled substance, oppression under color of office, petite larceny, possession of stolen property and first-degree driving under intoxication.
