AGAWAM, MA (WSHM) -

Six Flags New England will debut a ride this year that is twice the height of any other attraction in the park.

The New England SkyScreamer is a swing that will stand 400-feet tall and spin riders through the air at speeds up to 40 mph. The first visible signs of the SkyScreamer, the world's tallest swing ride, have arrived in Agawam and are awaiting assembly.

"Once the 24 thrill seekers board the ride, it quickly rises, taking guests 40 stories into the air. While spinning round and round, riders will experience breathtaking views of the Connecticut River and New England skyline," said Jennifer McGrath of Six Flags New England.

The new attraction will require more than 5,000 man hours to construct and weigh 570,000 pounds.

For the past several months, construction engineers have been focused on building the ride's foundation.

"At night, the New England SkyScreamer's bright lights will beckon guests from near and far," McGrath said, adding that the swing will be the park's newest icon.
