Bryce Dejean-Jones scored a career-high 24 points as UNLV pulled away from Fresno State 75-62 in a conference opener on Wednesday.
UNLV (10-4, 1-0 Mountain West) was unable to shake the Bulldogs (7-7, 0-1) until Dejean-Jones scored five straight points - on a three-point play and a jumper - to extend a 48-45 lead to eight points with 9:30 to play. The lead went to 11 a minute later when Khem Birch converted a three-point play, but Fresno State's Marvelle Harris brought his team back to 56-51 with a personal 6-0 run.
Dejean-Jones answered on the other end, and the UNLV lead was soon back to double digits.
Harris led Fresno State with 25 points, 19 after halftime, and Cezar Guerrero scored 16.
Birch scored 14 for UNLV with 17 rebounds and four blocked shots while Roscoe Smith added 13 points and 12 boards for his nation-leading 10th double-double.
