LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Passengers packed McCarran International Airport on Sunday, as revelers arrived for new year celebrations planned across Las Vegas this week.

Officials said more than 300,000 tourists and locals are expected to pack the Las Vegas Strip on Tuesday night to welcome 2014.

Lisa Newton and Lydia Le Ray of Chicago said their first trip to entertainment capital of the world includes David Copperfield, Cirque du Soleil and, for New Year's Eve, a Bruno Mars concert.

"We had to come to the biggest party city to party with Vegas," Newton said.

Doug Hartnett, of Toledo, OH, said a New Year's Eve stop in Las Vegas is part of a larger trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.

"[I'm] going to drive into Los Angeles the next few days, then come back [Jan. 2] to take in a show," Hartnett said. "I've never been to Vegas before. So, [I] will spend the night and enjoy the town."

For the first time, this year's celebration will include a pyrotechnic countdown to 2014 at the Stratosphere.
