LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The project to reconnect the historic West Las Vegas neighborhood with downtown will begin in earnest next week, leading to numerous surface street closures.

Beginning on Feb. 2, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will start construction on F Street north of Interstate 15 as part of the project to reopen it under the interstate.

Las Vegas Paving will make improvements to the storm drain and sewer utilities.

McWilliams Avenue will be closed from F Street to E Street. The northern half of McWilliams will remain accessible to homeowners, however.

Shortly after utility work begins, roadwork and utility work on F Street from I-15 to Washington Avenue will commence. The project is slated for a Jan. 20 start and won't be completed until the end of spring.

Construction equipment and haul trucks will be moved in and out using G, H and E streets. All through traffic on F Street will be restricted. Construction will take place daily from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. You will be able to access your home from F Street during construction.

The project includes a resurfacing of F Street, new sidewalks, curbs and gutter installations, decorative lighting and landscaping.
