HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

Monday was the last day to ship priority express mail at the post office in time for Christmas. If you still need another day, there is a solution, but it will cost you.

For a $32 fee, you can have items shipped overnight in time for Christmas Day.

The lines were long at the post office on Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson Monday.

"Procrastination - I was doing other things," postal customer Elisabeth Todechiney said.

Postal workers will work around the clock ahead of and even on Christmas Day to ensure gifts arrive on time.

"There will be a dozen workers from the general mailing facility fanning out across the Las Vegas Valley, delivering priority mail express on Christmas Day," U.S. Postal Service customer relations coordinator Ralph Langevain said.

Langevain said his office hired 60 seasonal workers to help with the load and that business is up about 12 percent over last year, thanks in large part to strong Black Monday sales. About 160 million pieces of mail were processed between Thanksgiving and Christmas in the Valley.

"You want to take a breath but it feels good. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and we are looking forward to getting all the packages delivered - and we will get every single one delivered," Postmaster Grady Griffin said.

Some Valley post offices will stay open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
