MESA, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A 21-year-old Mesa mother accused of child abuse has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Maricopa County prosecutors said Jessica Allyson Martinez was sentenced Friday on a misdemeanor count.

Martinez was arrested on Dec. 20 after her 2-year-old son was found on the balcony of her apartment on North Mesa Drive in 40-degree weather wearing only a diaper.

Martinez told police she was taking money and dropping her car off at a Walmart where her boyfriend works when police found her child, according to a police report.

A neighbor called police to report the child wandering around the balcony of the apartment, according to a court document.

The child answered the door when police arrived, but officers found no one else at the apartment, according to the report.

The child's diaper was soiled and the boy appeared dirty and unbathed, according to the report.

Officers found Martinez at the Walmart, about four miles from her apartment, and she told them she left the child about 11 p.m. to deliver the car and money, according to the report.
