LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Gas prices in the Las Vegas Valley fell by 1.2 cents from last week, according to GasBuddy.com.

On Monday, the price-tracking website said the average cost for a gallon of gas in the Las Vegas area was $3.18 - 13 cents lower than the national average.

Locally, the price was 3.6 cents lower than a month ago, but a penny higher than a year ago. Nationally, the prices was 2.4 cents less than last month and less than a penny lower than last year.

Experts said the dip in gas prices will likely not last as the end of the year approaches.

"While prices will advance, I don't expect it to last too long," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com. "January and February generally also feature relatively low gasoline prices."

DeHaan said he expects gas prices in 2014 to average lower than this year.

AAA reported the average cost for a gallon of gas was at $3.26 in Nevada.
