Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year, but the Saturday before Christmas is typically the second busiest. Shoppers and retailers at Town Square were in a frenzy to make the most of the shopping season before Christmas.
The parking lots were packed and the checkout lines were long at many stores. Thanksgiving was later this year, so the holiday shopping season was shorter. A lot of shoppers said they didn't realize that Christmas is just around the corner.
"This (crowd) is nothing. Black Friday, it (the line) was wrapped all the way around (the store). This line isn't that bad," shopper Elizabeth Larviere said, her hands full with gifts for her family.
Old Navy was one of many big name stores offering big discounts this weekend. The National Retail Federation says the shorter holiday shopping season has more stores slashing prices later in the year.
"Everywhere we've gone, it's a line like this. It's a little obnoxious," said an Old Navy shopper stuck in a long line.
Molly Walters, owner at Artifact, says her sales have been steady since Black Friday, but Saturday was the busiest day yet.
"We are doing next day air (shipping) but we won't be doing it after today. We are offering free gift wrap up until Christmas Eve," said Walters.
Security officers at Town Square said there have been a couple of shoplifting incidents this week, but the crowd has been tame for the most part. Officers also said some shoppers needed help finding their cars after forgetting where they parked.
Overall, sales are up this holiday season according to the National Retail Federation. A lot of those sales are happening online.
Most stores at Town Square will close for Christmas by 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
