LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A Las Vegas father accused of abuse in the death of his infant son was scheduled to make his initial appearance in court Friday.

Ahmad Moosa, 31, was charged with murder, two counts of child abuse and two counts of child neglect connected to the Dec. 14 death of his seven-week-old son, Damian.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Moosa told police the child was in his care that day while his wife and the boy's mother was out shopping. He told police he was changing the child's diaper when he urinated on him. After going to change clothes in a bedroom, Moosa said he returned to his child who was found unresponsive, documents showed.

After performing CPR, Moosa said, the child was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Police said investigators learned from the boy's autopsy of rib fractures, some newer and others still healing. In documents, doctors told police the injuries were not consistent with CPR chest compressions.

In addition, doctors told police the baby had a significant amount of pooled blood in his brain as well as a bruise on his skin. Doctors believed the injuries could have been done in a short amount of time. Police also noted in the report the child's inability to be mobile for his age. Both parents also told police the child acted normally before his death.

Police subsequently confronted Moosa about the injuries, but he maintained having no knowledge of what could have cause the child's death.

Moosa was booked into Clark County Detention Center.

His 72-hour hearing was scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
