LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Las Vegas Metro police released the names of two officers who were involved in the shooting of an armed man near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus.
Police said Officer Todd Fasulo Jr. and Officer Ronald Thoma were involved in the incident in the 3200 block of East University Parkway on Monday night.
According to police, officers were called to the area of a concerned roommate after a man, identified in a police report as Jose Aguilar, tried to commit suicide by injecting himself with dog insulin.
When officers arrived, Aguilar came out of the house holding a shotgun, the report stated.
According to police, officers told him to put down the gun, which he did. When police tried to take him into custody, though, he grabbed for the gun, prompting an officer to open fire, police said.
Aguilar was shot in the lower part of his body. He was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was listed in stable condition.
Police said no one else was injured in the incident.
Fasulo, 27, was hired by the police department in 2008 while Thoma, 43, was hired in 2000. Both officers, who were assigned to Metro's Southeast Area Command, were placed on routine paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
