Man struck, killed by train outside Las Vegas Valley

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A man trespassing on railroad tracks outside of the Las Vegas Valley was struck and killed by a freight train, an official with Union Pacific confirmed Wednesday.

Union Pacific spokesperson Aaron Hunt said the incident happened about 6 a.m. involving an eastbound train on tracks east of Nevada Highway 604 and west of Interstate 15, south of Moapa.

Hunt said the train originated in Los Angeles and was heading for Illinois.

An investigation is ongoing into what led to the incident.
