LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

It's nearly Christmastime in Las Vegas, and that means the annual mad rush to mail out holiday packages is on.

At this time of year, nearly six million pieces of mail are processed each day in Las Vegas. With deadlines approaching, the lines at the post office are getting long.

In fact, Monday is projected to be the busiest mailing day of the year.

"No one wants to wait in line, especially during the holidays," said postal customer Jasmine Barr.

Barr needs to get gifts to Utah and Ohio before Christmas. She has two days left to send via standard mail, and about a week for priority and first class.

The popularity of Cyber Monday has led to the United States Postal Service processing 12 percent more packages than last year during the holidays.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, it's estimated about 160 million pieces of mail will have gone through Las Vegas post offices.

If you're hoping to avoid lines, postal employees say the best time to visit the post office is about 10 a.m. It's always the busiest around lunch time.
