LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Two people are facing several charges after police said they fired on an officer during a vehicle chase early Monday morning.

Hugo Baldovinos, 21, of North Las Vegas, and an unidentified male juvenile were arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, battery with a deadly weapon, felony evading, grand larceny and other crimes.

Police said the incident began shortly after 12:30 a.m. when officers were called to West Sahara Avenue near Arville Street in response to a call about a robbery and carjacking.

The caller reported two men armed with handguns robbed a man and woman, fleeing the area in a black Ford sedan stolen from the couple.

A patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled, firing several rounds from the passenger side of the car at the officer, police said.

Officers then pursued the vehicle without returning fire.

The car slowed down enough to allow a woman to jump from it. She surrendered to police and was later released.

Officers forcibly stopped the Ford in a parking lot at the intersection of Valley View Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Both Baldovinos and the juvenile attempted to flee on foot, police said. They were quickly taken into custody.

Police said the two have numerous outstanding warrants for other crimes. No officers were injured in the incident.
