Mountain West champs Fresno State will face one of the most storied programs in college football - Southern California during the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 21.
The Bulldogs of Fresno finished 11-1 this season, while the Trojans of SoCal finished 9-4 in the Pac-12, tying for second in the conference.
The bowl game, which kicks off at 12:30 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium, features two teams that have not played in Las Vegas in more than a decade, according to the bowl's executive director Dan Hanneke.
"Both teams spent a lot of time in the national rankings this season," Hanneke said. "We know our city is excited to host a program with the national recognition and rich history of a USA and pit the Trojans against one of the top offensive teams in college football in Fresno State."
The game will mark only the third meeting between the two teams, and only the second in the postseason. Fresno thumped USC 24-7 in 1992 during the Freedom Bowl, but the Trojans pulled out the win against the Bulldogs 50-42 during a regular season game on Nov. 19, 2005.
The game will be televised on ABC. Tickets can be purchased by calling 702-739-3267 or at lvbowl.com.
FOX5 is also giving viewers the chance to win tickets to the game and a key that could start a 2014 Chevy Camaro. Click here to enter the sweepstakes.
