LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas firefighters responded to Westeria Avenue, near US95 and Jones just before 10 p.m. Saturday after fire dispatchers received multiple 911 calls that a house was on fire.

When firefighters arrived, heavy flames and smoke were showing from a one-story wood frame house, fire officials say. Because of the intensity of the fire, firefighters had to fight the fire from the outside at the beginning. Just as firefighters arrived, the fire spread to a large palm tree in the front yard, but within a few minutes firefighters were able to bring it under control and confine the bulk of the fire to the interior, say fire officials.

Fire officials say the fire heavily damaged the inside of the house. It appears the house is unoccupied, and there were no utilities connected to it, say fire officials. There was a notice on the front of the house that stated the house was unsafe to live in.

Damage is estimated at $60,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials say neighbors told fire investigators that people were seen in the house, even just before the fire. The house was not secured and it appears the fire started in the kitchen area of the house, fire officials say.

There were no injuries during the incident.
