Police said a man who was armed with three guns early Saturday morning was shot and killed by officers.
The officer-involved shooting happened about 2 a.m. at the Mountain Vista Apartments at 3950 S. Mountain Vista St.
Sgt. John Sheahan, of Las Vegas Metro police, said officers were called to the apartments after several disconnected 911 calls from family members who said their son was suicidal and wanted to provoke a confrontation with police by starting a mass shooting.
Sheahan said that when officers arrived, they confronted the man who was armed with two rifles and a handgun. He said that the man then pointed one of the rifles at officers, who opened fire. He said the man was wounded, and taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment, where he died.
The man's identity was not immediately released.
Sheahan said evidence suggests that the man fired several rounds before officers arrived, but no one was injured by those shots.
Three officers were involved in the shooting, Sheahan said.
