Prosecutors claimed a Las Vegas kindergarten teacher, who is accused of kidnapping a teen runaway, had sexual contact with the girl after it was found she contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

In documents released Thursday, attorneys with the Clark County District Attorney's office revealed a 16-year-old girl who was found at the home of Melvyn Sprowson, 45, was diagnosed with an unspecified STD when she was examined at the hospital after her recovery.

Citing the girl's relatives, prosecutors also claimed in documents Sprowson gave the girl a diamond ring he had bought from an acquaintance for $2,000 and told her they would run away together if they were found out.

Prosecutors raised these details of the case during a bail reduction hearing on Wednesday for Sprowson. A judge set Sprowson's bail to $530,000 on charges of kidnapping, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a child and obstruction of justice.

Sprowson was arrested on Nov. 1 after an investigation into a missing persons case pointed to the Wengert Elementary School teacher, according to Clark County School District police.

An arrest report for Sprowson states the teen met him online. Police were able to connect Sprowson through emails and Craigslist information, documents said.

Police interviewed Sprowson at Wengert Elementary on Oct. 1. While Sprowson admitted to knowing the 16-year-old via text messages, Craigslist and phone calls, he claimed he had never met her in person. He also claimed to have wired her $150 one time.

The teen told police she ran away from home because she didn't like her mother's attitude, eventually looking for a roommate on Craigslist. She told police she came across an advertisement posted by Sprowson.

The teen further said the two developed a dating relationship and shared a bed. The teen was not attending school while living with Sprowson.

Sprowson has been held at Clark County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Monday, Dec. 9.
