LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

It was the biggest opening day in recent history at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, according to resort staff.

Marketing Director Maria Jose Norero said more than 1,000 people showed up on the first day of the season. She said the crowd was four times the size of the crowd on opening day last year.

This year, the resort is offering free lessons to any skier or boarder with a lift ticket or season pass.

It's also the first year there was enough snow to open all 30 ski runs and every chair lift on day one.

"It's been a very long time since we were able to open with 100 percent terrain. The two feet of snow Mother Nature brought helped," said Jose Norero.

There was a long line to get food at the lodge Friday afternoon. Many in line were looking forward to the opening of a rooftop bar later this year.

"I don't know why, but I just love skiing!" said seven-year-old skier Jade Douglass. She said she's been waiting to get back on the slopes for months and wasted no time in showing off her skills. "One of the instructors said wow when I passed them because I was pretty good," she said.

Tickets for the ski lift are available online this year. Staff said the tickets are cheaper if purchased ahead of time. Visit www.skilasvegas.com for more information.
