LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Strip shooting suspect Ammar Harris will go on trial in September next year on murder charges.

A hearing on Monday set the trial against the man accused of opening fire at another vehicle earlier this year to Sept. 8, 2014.

Last month, Harris was given new counsel after his former attorney was granted a request to leave the case.

Harris has been held at Clark County Detention Center since April after a manhunt tied to a car-to-car shooting and fiery crash that killed three people.

According to police, Harris was behind the wheel of a Range Rover who shot at a Maserati driven by Kenneth Cherry Jr. The Maserati accelerated into the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, where it crashed into a taxi cab, police said.

The taxi cab burst into flames, killing driver Michael Bolden and passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for Harris in the Strip shooting case. The trial was originally set to start in December.
