MT. CHARLESON (FOX5) -

The Labree family gambled that Thursday's rain in Las Vegas meant there would be snow up in Kyle Canyon.

They hopped in their car and drove to the Mt. Charleston Lodge to find out they were right.

"It's like a winter wonderland," said Sarah Labree.

Between 2-4 inches of snow fell Thursday afternoon in Kyle Canyon. More is expected on the mountain until Saturday.

Several adventurers from Las Vegas made the short drive to the lodge today to frolic in it.

"That holiday season kinda feel you know," said Duane Eldredge.

This is the stuff that makes big adults turn into little children -- a feeling Eldredge usually takes home with him.

"We usually fill up the back of the truck full of snow, take it back to Vegas and have snowball fights," said Eldredge.

Fifteen-year resident of the mountain, Greta Weist, is just as eager to see fresh powder.

"Everybody on the mountain lives here for this... And it was like beat it out of work as fast as you could so you could see it before it gets too dark," said Weist.

Weist suffered through July's Carpenter One fire and the flooding that came afterwards.

With snow does comes some worry.

"It's not rain, so it's not a flood and you look at it, and you're not sure what's in store for spring," said Weist.

Mainly Weist is worried about visitors who come to the mountain overeager and leave caution to the snow.

"Be safe," said Weist. "You come up here and it's so pretty and you're so excited, and you want to lose your mind. Don't do it. Just be safe."

The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort in Lee Canyon said they got about 6 inches of snow Thursday, not enough to open early however.

It's still scheduled to open Nov. 29.
