LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 12-year-old boy was in critical condition with a severe head injury at University Medical Center after he was hit by a car while riding his bike Saturday, according to police.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. Saturday at Spring Gate Lane and Trailwood Drive in the northwest part of the Valley.

Police said a Chevy Malibu hit the boy as he was riding his bike. They said he didn't stop at a stop sign on Delaney Creek and continued riding into the intersection at Trailwood Drive.

Police have not yet determined if the boy was wearing a helmet when he was hit.

The female driver of the vehicle was not speeding and was not intoxicated, police said. They said she passed several field sobriety tests, but officers found open containers of alcohol in the car.

The driver was arrested on unrelated charges, police said. They said she had warrants out for her arrests.

Officers on the scene said the driver may have had a suspended driver's license.

Police said three other people were in the car when the accident happened.
