The UMass Amherst Graduate Employee Organization will rally in protest Friday.
According to officials, the organization will gather on the steps of the Student Union of the UMass Amherst campus to protest and demand long-term solutions after the graduate employees were allegedly repeatedly paid late.
Officials at GEO said that more than 500 graduate student workers who began their jobs on Sept. 1, 2013 did not receive paychecks until October.
According to the organization, student-workers who were paid late have reported facing late fees and significant overdrafts, along with inability to pay rent or bills on time and difficulty providing themselves and their families with basic necessities like groceries.
GEO is also collecting signatures on a petition to support their demands and are collecting more through their website.
Officials said they are hoping the rally will pressure UMass Amherst to respect the terms of their contract and take action to ensure that all of its student-workers receive timely pay for their work.
