LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A fight at a Las Vegas bar Tuesday night ended with the death of one woman and the arrest of another, according to police.

The fight happened about 11 p.m. at a bar in the 3500 block of South Maryland Parkway.

Larry Hadfield, public information officer for Las Vegas Metro police, said arriving officers found a woman lying in the bar's parking lot, suffering from a stab wound. He said another woman, identified as 22-year-old Sarah Chavez, was being detained by a patron of the bar.

Hadfield said the injured woman was taken to Sunrise Trauma Center, where she later died. The woman's identity was not immediately released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

According to an arrest declaration, Chavez began arguing with two women after the pair tripped Chavez's boyfriend. The argument turned into a fight and spilled into the parking lot, according to the report.

The report said that a patron of the bar followed the women outside and tried to separate them. He said Chavez reached around him and punched one of the women in the chest, according to the report. The patron said the woman who was punched yelled, "She has a knife," and began spraying blood everywhere.

According to the report, Chavez, during an interview with detectives, denied knowing the woman had been stabbed. She then said she armed herself with a sharp object in the bar because she was afraid, the report said. It said Chavez eventually admitted she had the knife with her before the fight started.

A bloody knife was also found at the scene, according to the report.

Chavez was charged with murder with a deadly weapon. She was being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
