NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

It didn't take long for North Las Vegas Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tim Bedwell to decide he won't be running for Clark County sheriff.

Bedwell on Monday said he was considering running for the position of top cop. On Tuesday afternoon, he said he'll be staying with the department. Bedwell told FOX5 that despite the temptation to run, he wants to stay in North Las Vegas in order to see it through current challenges.

Bedwell said he has been asked numerous times to run for sheriff.

On Friday, Metro Officer Laurie Bisch announced her intention to drop out of the race for sheriff, throwing her support behind Larry Burns, the captain of the Bolden Area Command.

Current Sheriff Doug Gillespie recently announced he will not seek a third term in office.

Other contenders include former Assistant Sheriff Ted Moody, former Las Vegas Township Constable Robert "Bobby G" Gronaur and Metro Detective Gordon Martines.
