Hopes are high that UNLV senior guard Kevin Olekaibe will be playing with the Runnin' Rebels soon.
UNLV on Monday announced the NCAA has approved a waiver that grants relief from a mandatory one-year residency requirement, which would allow Olekaibe to hit the court immediately.
All that remains now is for the Mountain West Conference to approve the waiver.
"We are thankful to the NCAA for approving this waiver on its merit," said UNLV men's basketball head coach Dave Rice. "We are pleased for Kevin and his family. We will now await approval from the Mountain West Conference."
Olekaibe transferred from Fresno State, where he put up 1,169 points in three years. Last season, he played in all 30 games, starting 24 times and averaging 8.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1. steals per game.
