A 19-year-old woman was killed when a car she was in hit a light pole in northeast Las Vegas early Saturday.
Police said that at 12:29 a.m. a Ford F-150 and an Acura Integra were traveling at a fast rate of speed north on Maryland Parkway when both drivers lost control of their vehicles in a curve.
According to police, the Integra traveled onto the center median and hit a street light pole with the right side of the car and came to rest at the pole. The Ford F-150 traveled onto the center median and slid to a stop.
Medical teams pronounced the passenger of the Integra dead at the scene and the driver was transported to UMC Trauma with critical injuries.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the passenger as 19-year-old Iveth Cruz, of Las Vegas. Her death was ruled an accident.
Police said the driver of the Ford was arrested and charged with reckless driving. They said the driver may have also been drunk.
This is the 86th traffic related fatality in the LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2013.
