LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 23-year Air Force veteran is asking for help in getting his medals back. They were stolen from his vehicle at the Hilton Grand Vacations Suites on Flamingo Road near the Strip.

Now, the veteran is turning to Craigslist for help.

The crime happened inside the hotel's parking garage.

"My car was broken into. The passenger side window was smashed," veteran Bob Crowley said.

Surprisingly, many valuable items inside Crowley's Volkswagen convertible were left alone.

"I have a brand new stereo that I installed in the vehicle just this past week, and they didn't touch that. They didn't touch anything in the trunk," Crowley said.

What the thief did take from the car is irreplaceable.

"My military shadow box that had my uniforms, my ribbons, my medals, dog tags, an American flag," Crowley said.

Those items were rewards for 23 years of service in the Air Force.

Crowley was in Las Vegas because he has retired, making the cross-country drive from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to Boston, where his family awaits.

Crowley's wife is offering a $500 reward on Craigslist to anyone who can get the medals back.

The call for help didn't fall on deaf ears. Several Air Force members used a website to raise money for Crowley.

"YouCaring.com, and within 24 hours they were able to raise almost $1,000 for me to be able to get a replacement box made up," Crowley said.

Crowley said he is holding on to hope that someone will spot his medals in a pawn shop or elsewhere.
