Former Southampton fire chief facing conflict of interest charges

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) -

Former Southampton fire Chief Stephen Hyde is being investigated by the state ethics commission for allegedly breaking conflict of interest laws.

They say he falsified duty records to credit his son, an on-call firefighter in the town, for work his son didn't do.

The ethics commission says Hyde also used a department generator to power his home.

Officials say 17 payrolls Hyde submitted to the town during 2011 included requests for payment of $50 or more for work his son didn't do.

The payments range from $225 to more than $6,000.

The commission will schedule the case for a public hearing within 90 days.
