LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

You might want to forget about driving through downtown Las Vegas this weekend.

The Life is Beautiful Music and Arts Festival has taken over, and many roads will be closed while others will be severely congested.

Nearly every street from 10th to Las Vegas Boulevard and Carson Avenue to Mesquite Avenue will be closed to traffic, for those in vehicles and on foot.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman encouraged those attending the festival to park elsewhere.

"We have shuttles going back and forth from the World Market Center, which is where we're having parking. Then there are some lots being converted to parking lots," Goodman said.

On the upside, the festival is getting many downtown for the first time.

"We've been walking around, and so far, having a great time looking at the old buildings, old signs and seeing what they're doing downtown to revitalize it," California tourist Brian Fried said.

Others, like Ken King, who hasn't been to Fremont Street since 1988, were blown away by the changes.

"Downtown, Fremont, amazing. We couldn't believe the transformation," he said.

The first bands are scheduled to take the stage at noon on Saturday.
