3-day hot air balloon fest takes off in southwest Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Hot air balloons in the sky over the southwest end of the Las Vegas Valley will be a common sight over the weekend.

The second annual Balloon Festival and Carnival is set to be staged from Friday through Sunday at Southern Hills Hospital.

The free event, which is hosted by Friends of Metro Search and Rescue Las Vegas, allows people to get up close with the wafting wonders as well as their pilots.

Organizers said they expect more than 20,000 people to turn out for the event.

The event is located at 9300 W. Sunset Rd. Hours for the event are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
