HOLBROOK, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A former tribal police chief has been indicted on charges including domestic violence and discharging a firearm for allegedly shooting at his estranged wife's car with a rifle.

The Navajo County Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that a grand jury indicted Samuel Lujan.

The 47-year-old acting police chief for the Tonto Apache Tribe faces five felony counts, ranging from stalking to disorderly conduct.

Here's a list of the charges:

  • Stalking domestic violence, a Class 3 felony
  • Discharging a firearm at a structure, a Class 3 felony
  • Misconduct involving body armor, a Class 4 felony
  • Criminal damage domestic violence, a Class 6 felony
  • Disorderly conduct/domestic violence, a Class 6 felony.

Authorities said Lujan shot at the unoccupied vehicle at least 18 times on a residential street in Heber on Oct. 19 after receiving divorce papers.

Lujan then barricaded himself inside his home, resulting in a standoff with law enforcement that lasted several hours.

He eventually surrendered.

Prosecutors said Lujan is scheduled to appear in Navajo County Superior Court on Oct. 31.
