QUARTZSITE, AZ (CBS5) -
The Quartzsite Town Council voted Tuesday to terminate their embattled police chief's contract without cause.
The public was not allowed to make any comments concerning the ouster of Jeff Gilbert and there was no discussion about it. The only explanation that one council member made was the town wanted to move in a new direction.
Last September, the assistant town manager fired the chief without council action. That is when the council fired the town manager, town attorney, assistant town manager and a few other people.
Then the chief got reinstated, and the current town manager was hired.
Quartzsite is about 129 miles from Phoenix.
