NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

Country superstar and Las Vegas Strip resident Shania Twain is giving back to the community, on Monday launching a clubhouse for kids at an elementary school in North Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas SKC (Shania Kids Can Foundation) Clubhouse opened at Tom Williams Elementary. SKC is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk kids.

The clubhouse is a brightly decorated room with academic, therapeutic and extra-curricular activities for students in the program.

"As I began my residency here in Las Vegas, I knew that this is where I should introduce a new program to give back to this wonderful community that has welcomed me with open arms and made me feel so at home," Twain said.

Many of the students in the program have difficult home lives or qualify for social service intervention.

"Looking back at my childhood, I realized that my disadvantages, whether they were due to not having a supportive environment or due to a lack of financial resources, created a lack of self-confidence and insecurity in me, causing me to withdraw and be less social than my classmates," Twain said. "I promised myself early on in my childhood that I would help kids just like myself cope with their disadvantages and prosper in spite of those challenges."
